Yeah, I've written to my reps and senators a few times over the last couple of years. I even write to my highly-Republican Senators: Burr and Dole every once in a while. Usually I try to appear reasoned and moderate, because that's who I am, and I assume I have a better chance of being heard that way.
Well, this time I had had it. I don't care if my Senators will never vote a hair out of line with our horribly unpopular president, I want my voice to be heard. The more people write, the greater the pressure. I don't care if they agree with me or ever do anything about it, but we won't let them know the level of support for action against this administration unless we tell them.
So, have you written to your representative and senators today?
Read what I wrote, below the flip...
Dear [name here]:
I am a stable, well-educated, moderate, professional homeowner. I have been raised with traditional notions of our country, our history, our freedoms and our founding principles by my father, a high-school History teacher. I have been familiar with the workings of politics, including historical notions of political behavior, since very young. I was a page in our state legislature in my home state of Indiana. I'm 42-years-old, married for 14 years with one son.
I tell you this to impress upon you the absolutely normal, sane, middle-of-the-road nature of myself. I feel the need to make this impression because of the rest of my communication. I have a very simple message for you, my elected representative.
Impeach the President.
I have had my fill, and then some. This is the worst, most corrupt, most dishonest, most power-hungry administration in the history of this country. I never thought to see a president who posed such a great risk to our nation. President Bush has begun to achieve movie-villain levels of audacity in his consolidation of power. His claims of presidential power far surpass anything I could have ever conceived of prior his administration.
This is far beyond a Democrat or Republican issue. This is a Citizen Patriot issue. This man, and his entire administration, pose a far greater risk to our country, our freedoms, our way of life than any outside force ever has, and that includes the British when they burned the White House in 1812, or the Third Reich or Japan's Co-prosperity Sphere during WWII. None had the beach head that President Bush currently holds. None had the tools, the compliant Congress, the intelligence agencies, the military that this president has.
I expect every member of Congress, especially those of you who have a sense of duty to this country, those of you who place your oath of office over party affiliation, to demand accountability of this administration. Without this call, without this action taken, I will find myself unable to vote for any current member of Congress in either house, and will, for the first time in my life, actively work to oust any such representatives.
As the commercial says, "Yeah, it's that important."
Sincerely,
Andrew Midkiff
